While the greater Venice area is known for arts, culture, food, and beautiful beaches, Venice has ties to many effective and charismatic politicians on the city, state, and national level. These leaders take many different approaches to the issues of the day, but they’re all united by their love for California.

Ted Lieu has served as the United States Representative for the 33rd Congressional District since 2015. He was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and attended Stanford University and Georgetown law. He used his law skills in the Air Force’s Judge Advocate General Corps on active duty from 1995-1999, and continues to serve in the Air Force Reserve. Lieu was elected to the California State Assembly in 2005, and the California Senate in 2011.

Mike Bonin is the councilmember for the 11th district of the City Council of Los Angeles. Bonin was first elected in 2013, and was re-elected in 2017. Prior to his career in politics, he attended Harvard University and worked as a reporter in Springfield, MA. He worked in Los Angeles city politics, working for councilmembers Ruth Galanter and Bill Rosendahl.

Autumn Burke is Assemblywoman for the California State Assembly’s 62nd district, serving since 2014. Burke is the daughter of Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, who served in the State Assembly, House of Representatives, and LA County Board of Supervisors. Prior to taking office, Autumn Burke worked as a realtor and business consultant.

Sheila Kuehl is a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for District 3, serving since 2014.
